A collaborative exhibition that brought together 15 crafters and 15 artists from Mpumalanga to co-create towering wooden giraffes — each a canvas for cultural imagination.
Traditional craft and contemporary art are often siloed, missing out on the richness that comes from cross-disciplinary collaboration. Emerging artists lack access to platforms that honour both technique and narrative.

ART AID facilitated a creative collaboration where skilled crafters built wooden giraffe sculptures, and visual artists then painted, adorned, and interpreted them through their own lens. The giraffes became public symbols of unity, skill, and story.
Fifteen handcrafted giraffes became bold canvases for cross-generational collaboration, blending artisan skill with contemporary art — sparking visibility for all involved and engaging festivalgoers with craft in a whole new way.
