Inspired by Wildflowers
In Springbok, Northern Cape, community crafters turn seasonal blooms into sustainable, locally inspired product lines.
Despite its popularity as a tourism destination during flower season, Springbok lacked creative products that reflected the region’s natural beauty and cultural identity — missing an opportunity to generate income through craft.
A plate features a desert scene with three cartoon sheep, a lone tree, a blue water tank, a windmill, and a yellow sun with rays, all set against a blue sky and brown ground. The design is simple and playful, using bold lines and solid colours.
Two colourful spoons are shown. One is blue with white daisy flowers and yellow centres, while the other is red with yellow and white daisies. Both handles have holes at the base for hanging and are decorated with matching floral patterns.
A blue metal jug with a curved handle and a wide spout, decorated with large white daisies with yellow centres and black outlines, on a transparent background.

ART AID ran creative workshops where participants learned to draw inspiration from the wildflower season to design and produce craft products. These items celebrated the visual identity of the area and connected to the local tourism economy.
